Only one who has studied the magnificent body can understand. The heart pumps 6,000 quarts of blood each day through an intricate circulatory system which stretched end to end would go completely across the United States. Each life, each body, is precious in [i]his[/i] sight. One of my friends wanted me to see the results of an autopsy he was doing on a black woman who had died with cancer. I never saw many cadavers but I was amazed that cancer had destroyed her body looking very much like cottage cheese. She had been a smoker and her lungs, instead of pink, were a dark, almost black, orange. I always tried not to look at the eyes but I noticed that her fingernails and toenails had polish. Someone, until the end, had loved her enough to manicure her fingernails and paint her toenails.
